I've been wondering recently if, in say two years time, we'll look back on what turned out to be a fad and think to ourselves "I can't believe I was part of that stuff!" :)

If had to be one of the other, the latter!

If it becomes a series it'll be the 'threshold series'

Best of luck!

The last one I wrote I was writing for the first half with six separate story lines which all came together for the middle section and then diverged into three storylines. It was a bit of a challenge but it did mean when I got stuck with one I could flip to another. It meant I had to concentrate very hard to be sure things all surged together at the right moment and that i had the continuity right and tight . I have a number of projects at the moment but am totally stymied on all of them...so am just hoping time at my "day job" will get things shifting in some way. I must add, it's not lack of inspiration but rather motivation, that's the problem.
As for not seeing mistakes, I'd agree. I also think it's very hard to find someone you can trust enough not to kill a book dead by nit picking at an early stage. Maybe better to finish, stick it in a drawer for three months and then come back with new eyes.
I have a lot of notebooks on the go for different things but it's the process of writing it down SOMEWHERE that is vital or snippets get lost too easily.

Great tip, thanks I will definitely do that, I was concerned about repressing the ideas because I like them,, but at the same time it makes it difficult to work on a single project.
You know when you write the same book everyday it starts to become almost mechanical and the eyes get trained not to see mistakes? I think when that happens to me I will switch book and work in the other book for a change of scenery and direction to keep things fresh a bit, it may take longer to finish the book this way however when I do finish I should have 3 books instead of one, hopefully 3 great books. I am just worried that I will have 3 bad books in the beginning with great endings, by doing it this way, hopefully not though.

Have a separate note book where you jot down the extra ideas that are popping up right now, so you can be more detached about it. This also means you have a record of ideas, etc that may be surplus to requirement for this enterprise but may come in just perfectly for something else in the future. This also keeps the stream of ideas flowing because you are not censoring them as just for that one book; it makes for weird reading if someone else ever reads your notes because it is very disjointed, but the single line should just bring back the full memory within a second or two.
Good luck!

Adrian, while I definitely understand wanting to write in your native language as well as English, Brett is right about the English market being far easier to get published in. On the other hand, if you're writing memoirs, you might definitely want to consider writing them in English and in Portuguese because people in Brazil will definitely want to read your memories.

Just reading through this blog, I never would have guessed English was not your first language. You write beautifully.

Brett, I think you are right about the market, Portuguese is my 1st language and English my 2nd but it has been my 1st for the last 15 years.
To make things worse they have just recently changed the syntax of the Portuguese language, lol.

I'll will keep on writing, that's the easy part the hard part is actually to stop writing, the story flows in my head so quickly that I have a hard time keeping up with the typing, if I hands lag too far behind my thoughts I miss out on important points.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciated.
Regards,
Adrian

I thought English was your first language! I'm biased but I would say write in English because there is a wider market in it, and seek advice from speakers of English as a first language when you get stuck.

More importantly, don't let any thing get in the way of pursuing your dream to get it down in writing, no matter wat the language is.
